Moab in Trouble

Moab in Trouble

Ezekiel 25:8 – “This is what the sovereign LORD says: ‘Moab and Seir say, “Look, the house of Judah is like all the other nations.” 9 – So loo,, I am about to open up Moab’s flank, eliminating the cities, including its frontier cities, the beauty of the land – Beth Jeshimoth, Baal Meon, and Kiriathaim. 10 – I will hand it over, along with the Ammonites, to the tribes of the east, so that the Ammonites will no longer be remembered among the nations. 11 – I will execute judgments against Moab. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”

Now it’s Moab’s turn to be in trouble.  Did you notice what they said regarding the house of Judah?  ‘The house of Judah is like all the other nations.’  We know that both Judah and Jerusalem received their punishment for actually behaving like the other nations.  Even today there are professed Christians that behave no differently than the non-Christians around them.  They die of the same diseases.  They get divorced at the same rates.  They enjoy the same entertainment.  What is forgotten, however, is that God wants to be known!  Once again we see the phrase used by God: ‘Then they will know that I am the LORD.’

It seems as though Moab was implying that if Judah behaves like the other nations it must mean that God is not LORD or that God is no different than other gods.  They would learn how wrong that thinking is.  So also will the whole world learn the hard way, including the rebel Jews from Judah and Jerusalem who persisted in behaving like the nations around them.  God is LORD over all, no matter what they think or do.  It will also be the same today.  If we misrepresent God by living like the rest of the world, we also will learn through suffering, that Jesus is LORD.

But let’s not start our week on such a negative note.  The good news is:  this is the warning.  We do not have to wait for the judgments to fall before acknowledging that Jesus is Lord.  We only have to look at the cross and see the depth of the love of God – that He would send His one and only Son to die for you and me.  And now He lives forever, interceding for us – making His throne of grace available to all who would seek His help in conquering sin and death.  Jesus truly is King of kings and LORD of lords.  There is no other god like Him.  Let’s get to know Him more today!
