Relationship Reminder

Relationship Reminder

Ezekiel 20:17 – Yet I had pity on them and did not destroy them, so I did not make an end of them in the wilderness. 19 – “But I said to their children in the wilderness, “Do not follow the practices of your fathers; do not observe their regulations, nor defile yourselves with their idols. 19 – I am the LORD your God; follow my statutes, observe my regulations, and carry them out. 20 – Treat my Sabbath as holy and they will be a reminder of our relationship, and then you will know that I am the LORD your God.”

A quick search on the internet revealed an interesting article by Joe Pinsker in ‘The Atlantic’ titled:  We Live By A Unit of Time that Doesn’t Make Sense.  Here’s the subtext:  “The seven day week has survived for millenia despite attempts to make it less chaotic.”  He claims it is ‘weird and clunky’ because it doesn’t ‘align with natural cycles or fit cleanly into months or years.’  He identifies how important it is to the Jews, Christians, and Muslims – but seems to agree with David Henkin, a historian at UC Berkeley who regards the seven day week as a ‘recalcitrant calendar unit.’ that has ‘curious staying power.’

There’s an excellent explanation for the ‘curious staying power’ of the seven day week with the Sabbath capping it all off at the end.  The explanation is God – there is no other.  God originated the seven day week at creation and it is here to stay defying any attempts at getting rid of it.  It is a weekly reminder to the world that God exists.  People will continue to try derailing it or coming up with alternative explanations for it in order to conceal the existence of God but the fact of the matter is – it cannot be done.  No other explanation fits.  It defies scientific explanation yet stays with us as a universal standard because God is the explanation of why we are here and He wants a relationship with each of us.

The Sabbath is a reminder that God made you and He loves you.  Let’s get to know Him and follow Him today!
