Right at the Door

Right at the Door

Mark 13:28 – “Learn this parable from the fig tree: Whenever its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 – So also you, when you see these things happening, know that he is near, right at the door. 30 – I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 31 – Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

This week I saw the first few flocks of Canada Geese flying northward in their signature V-formation.  Winter is almost over.  Spring is near.  Jesus used the signs in nature, of the changing seasons, as a parable to demonstrate how near He would be – right at the door.

How long will Jesus stay right at the door?  That’s an interesting question because there’s only one door.  He’ll be going through it when He returns and when He does everyone will know it. Look back to verse 26 – He arrives ‘in the clouds with great power and glory.’

There won’t be any generation that will miss out on seeing Jesus return.  1 Thessalonians 14:15 says – For we tell you this by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not go ahead of those who have fallen asleep.

Now look at Hebrews 11:39 and 40 – And these all were commended for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised. For God had provided something better for us, so that they would be made perfect together with us.

The words of Jesus will never pass away – they will be fulfilled.  Some of us will die slowly. Others will die quickly or in an instant.  We will not all die at the same time unless we happen to be in the same plane that drops from the sky. There are two resurrections: the first one and the second one.  Pray to the Lord that we are in the first one.  While we may not all die at the same time – we will all wake up at the same time to join those who have not slept in death to see Jesus coming in the clouds together – and we will know beyond all doubt that Jesus was right all along.

Jesus has always been at the door, not just at the door waiting to return, but at the door to our hearts – waiting for us to let Him in.  Let’s let Him in today!
