All Will Be Torn Down

All Will Be Torn Down

Mark 13:1 – Now as Jesus was going out of the temple courts, one of his disciples said to him, “Teacher, look at these tremendous stones and buildings!” 2 – Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left another. All will be torn down!”

There are times when my kids and I will have one of those ‘reality check’ conversations where, just like the disciples, we’ll be amazed at some form of architecture or construction and then say something like this:  ‘yep, and it will go up in smoke at the end.’

Psalm 127 says: If the LORD does not build a house, then those who build it work in vain. If the LORD does not guard a city, then the watchman stands guard in vain. It is vain for you to rise early, come home late, and work so hard for your food. Yes, he can provide for those whom he loves even when they sleep. Yes, sons are a gift from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Sons born during one’s youth are like arrows in a warrior’s hand. How blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! They will not be put to shame when they confront enemies at the city gate.

God is in the business of building people who will not perish.

We are co-workers belonging to God. You are God’s field, God’s building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master-builder I laid a foundation, but someone else builds on it. And each one must be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than what is being laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, each builder’s work will be plainly seen, for the Day will make it clear, because it will be revealed by fire. And the fire will test what kind of work each has done. – 1 Corinthians 3:9-13.

With Jesus as our foundation let us be confident ‘of this very thing, that the one who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.’ – Philippians 1:6.
