Welcome Jesus

Welcome Jesus

Mark 9:33 – Then they came to Capernaum. After Jesus was inside the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?” 34 – But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest.

verse 35 – After he sat down, he called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” 36 – He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms he said to them, 37 – “whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”

Did you notice how the disciples wouldn’t answer Jesus’ question?  They were silent.  They wouldn’t share with Jesus what they were arguing about.  Would we?  How many times have we been in heated, prideful discussions with each other that we would never dream of having with Jesus? Why is it we feel better about ourselves if we can portray ourselves as better than someone else – not realizing that we’ve got it all wrong?

Do you have children in your church? What if you don’t have any? How about those who are the least liked?  How about being a servant to them and making them first?  Welcoming Jesus into our churches is not about praying fancy prayers, singing nice songs, or having good speakers.  Look at the children. Look at the deacons and deaconesses who are always at church first, who are the first to serve at fellowship meals and are always quick to clean up and provide assistance – they are the ones who are living sermons, constantly welcoming Jesus to church.  Let’s join their ranks today and make church a place where everyone can worship Jesus in Spirit and in truth!

Have a wonderful Sabbath!
