Rising From the Dead

Rising From the Dead

Mark 9:12 – As they were coming down from the mountain, he gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10 – They kept this statement to themselves, discussing what this rising from the dead meant.

The disciples with Jesus were coming down from the mountain after witnessing Jesus become brilliantly white, seeing Moses and Elijah appear next to Him, and hearing the voice of God speaking to them telling them to listen to Jesus.  Do you think they were still in shock?  Who would believe what they had just seen?  Then Jesus told them to keep what they had seen to themselves and don’t say anything till after He rose from the dead.  So the disciples spoke among themselves about rising from the dead.  What did that mean?  What did that mean for Jesus?

When was the last time you discussed with someone what rising from the dead meant?  Maybe at a funeral?  or at work? or at home? Or on the phone?  Is it like when one wakes up from sleep in the morning?  In case you are wondering like the disciples were.  Here is an answer from the Bible for you:

Now we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also we believe that God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep as Christians. For we tell you this by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not go ahead of those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel, and the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be suddenly caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words. – 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.

When you talk about rising from the dead with others, be positive. Be encouraging. Bring hope into the conversation.  Bring Jesus!  Because He lives we can face tomorrow, even if in that tomorrow we fall asleep for we will rise again when Jesus returns in glory!
