Who is Jesus?

Who is Jesus?

Mark 8:27 – Then Jesus and his disciples went to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” 28 – They said, “John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and still others, one of the prophets.” 29 – He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered him, “You are the Christ.” 30 – Then he warned them not to tell anyone about  him.

But who do you say Jesus is?  Who is Jesus to you?  Our world is still filled with people who give differing answers to this question.  What is your answer?  What conclusion have you come to?

Under conviction Peter answered:  “You are the Christ.”  The word ‘Christ’ means “anointed,” more specifically, the anointed Son of God.  The very next thing Jesus gave them was a warning to not tell anyone about this.  The timing of Jesus revealing Himself was very important – but the thing I want to emphasize for our time today is this:  If Jesus is the Christ to you and me, then let’s do as He says.

Sometimes He prompts us to keep quiet.  Other times He prompts us to speak.  At all times He commands us to love.

For this is the gospel message that you have heard from the beginning: that we should love one another, not like Cain who was of the evil one and brutally murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his deeds were evil, but his brother’s were righteous. Therefore do not be surprised, brothers and sisters, if the world hates you. – 1 John 3:11-13.

We know that we have crossed over from death to life because we love our fellow Christians. The one who does not love remains in death. Everyone who hates his fellow Christian is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.  We have come to know love by this: that Jesus laid down his life for us; thus we ought to lay down our lives for our fellow Christians. – 1 John 3:14-16.

But whoever has the world’s possessions and sees his fellow Christian in need and shuts off his compassion against him, how can the love of God reside in such a person? Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue but in deed and truth. – 1 John 3:17-18.

If Jesus is the Christ to us, then let’s be Christian:  anointed by the Holy Spirit of God to love each other in deed and in truth!
