Made For All of Us
Mark 2:23 – Jesus was going through the grain fields on a Sabbath, and his disciples began to pick some heads of wheat as they made their way. 24 – So the Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is against the law on the Sabbath?” 25 – He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions were hungry – 26 – how he entered the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the sacred bread, which is against the law for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to his companions?” 27 – Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for people, not people for the Sabbath. 28 – For this reason the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
Everything that was created in the six days of creation was created before Adam and Eve were made. When Adam and Eve awoke, behold there was everything made just for them. They never saw it all being created. Not even Adam saw the creation of Eve, since he was asleep. However, the next day was their first full day alive. It was the Sabbath. It was a gift to them of seeing everything God had done and to be able to spend time with Him, the Creator, the Divine Artist who made it all.
Today is known as the ‘day of preparation.’ Mark 15:42 says – Now when evening had already come, since it was the day of preparation (that is, the day before the Sabbath),… Jesus prepared our first human parents to meet Him on the Sabbath, His first gift to them after He was done creating. A gift of time. This gift was made for all humanity – not to enslave us, but to bless us with a reminder of the truth for all time: Jesus is real and He really loves us! Our seven day week is an undeniable truth of all that Jesus has done for us.
Today, let’s get ready to meet our Creator, Jesus, who made the Sabbath for us. It’s right to do good things on the Sabbath with people and for people, in remembrance of all the good that has been done for us by Jesus.
