Garments of Skin

Genesis 3:21 – The LORD God made garments from skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them.

The clothing they made for themselves out of the leaves did not make them feel better – they hoped the camouflage would help them blend in with the environment and make them invisible to God. Their view of themselves made them fearful and exposed – they would not come to the light because of their knowledge of evil.

But God did something to ease their fears – instead of leaving them in their own clothing – He got them to talk about what they had done and then made clothing for them and clothed them.  The Creator whose hands had been upon them when He formed them – placed His hands upon them again – and they let Him – it takes trust to let someone see you in all your nakedness.  Adam and Eve, regained trust in their Creator so they let Him remove the leaves and clothe them with skins.

I will be full of joy in the Lord, my soul will be glad in my God; for he has put on me the clothing of salvation, covering me with the robe of righteousness, as the husband puts on a fair head-dress, and the bride makes herself beautiful with jewels. For as the earth puts out buds, and as the garden gives growth to the seeds which are planted in it, so the Lord will make righteousness and praise to be flowering before all the nations. – Isaiah 61:10-11.

Have a talk with Jesus today.  Let Him take away the fear that comes from transgression and let Him clothe you with His robe of righteousness!
