God Rescues From Death

God Rescues From Death

Psalm 68:19 – The Lord deserves praise! Day after day he carries our burden, the God who delivers us. (Selah) 20 – Our God is a God who delivers; the LORD, the sovereign Lord, can rescue from death.

The Bible says we shall not all sleep.  We know it is speaking about death.  That means that some of us will sleep.  But why call death a sleep?  Jesus called death a sleep because anyone who dies in this age will wake up in one of two resurrections.

Do not be amazed at this, because a time is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and will come out – the ones who have done what is good to the resurrection resulting in life, and the ones who have done what is evil to the resurrection resulting in condemnation. – John 5:28-29.

The resurrection resulting in condemnation is the one that ends in death.  Jesus is doing everything He can to prevent that outcome.  He wants to rescue us from death.  But we can be stubborn, determined to carry our own burdens, refusing His deliverance.

Why do we like to worry so much?  How about giving our burdens to the Lord for a change?  Let Him carry them. Looking at the cross today I recall the story of how the Israelites were bitten by the snakes.  Moses was instructed to fashion a bronze serpent, put it on a pole and give instructions to the people to look at it so they could live.

Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. – John 3:14-15.  Eternal life means being rescued from death.  Praise the Lord!
