Visiting the Earth

Visiting the Earth

Psalm 65:9 – You visit the earth and give it rain; you make it rich and fertile with overflowing streams full of water. You provide grain for them, for you prepare the earth to yield its crops. 10 – You saturate its furrows, and soak its plowed ground. With rain showers you soften its soil, and make its crops grow.

verse 11 – You crown the year with your good blessings, and you leave abundance in your wake. 12 – The pastures in the wilderness glisten with moisture, and the hills are clothed with joy.13 – The meadows are clothed with sheep, and the valleys are covered with grain. They shout joyfully, yes, they sing.

I recently saw a video showing a flock of sheep successfully being herded across a wide road.  It was an amazing thing to see how this dynamic mass of living creatures all made it across without getting lost.  From the top down perspective it looked like a massive blob continually changing shape as some sheep moved faster than others – and still others tried moving in different directions but the shepherds were well trained and made sure they all stayed together.

Our earth is constantly being visited by God – who keeps the sun shining and the rain falling – helping the earth yield its crops.  It’s easy to get distracted by what the world reports regarding extra-terrestrial visitors.  Our world is occupied by powerful forces bent on our destruction.  I’m talking about Satan and his evil angels.  He is the father of lies so you can bet that there are a lot of people acting on bad information.  But God is here with His powerful forces too and their aim is to save us.

We are all like sheep.  I can’t imagine what we must look like from heaven’s perspective – masses of sheep being led in different directions from a multitude of shepherds both good and evil.  As the meadows are clothed with sheep – so the world is clothed with people, but not all of them are singing joyfully – many are in mourning. Many more are angry and have gone to war.

God will crown the year with good blessings.  May our eyes be opened to see it and may our hearts sing with joy – even if it must be through pain.
