He Shoots, He Scores!

He Shoots, He Scores!

Psalm 64:1 – Listen to me, O God, as I offer my lament! Protect my life from the enemy’s terrifying attacks. 2 – Hide me from the plots of evil men, from the crowd of evildoers.  3 – They sharpen their tongues like a sword; they aim their arrow, a slanderous charge, 4 – in order to shoot down the innocent in secluded places. They shoot at him suddenly and are unafraid of retaliation.

verse 5 – They encourage one another to carry out their evil deed. They plan how to hide snares, and boast, “Who will see them?” 6 – They devise unjust schemes; they disguise a well-conceived plot. Man’s inner thoughts cannot be discovered.

verse 7 – But God will shoot at them; suddenly they will be wounded by an arrow. 8 – Their slander will bring about their demise. All who see them will shudder. 9 – and all people will fear. They will proclaim what God has done, and reflect on his deeds. 10 – The godly will rejoice in the LORD and take shelter in him. All the morally upright will boast.

I love the way this Psalm accurately portrays life.  We witness the intrigues of powerful people, governments, and nations who cloak their actions behind cunningly devised fables.  Who would ever discover the truth?  And if they do, who would believe it?

But they are defenseless against the arrows of God.  Suddenly the wounds appear.  They are caught in their own intrigues and it will be plain to see that God has done this.  Only God can bring down proud people and lying governments.

The godly will proclaim: This is God’s doing!  They will shelter in God boasting in Him.  Pay attention to what’s going on!  Do not fear the actions of the powerful.  God will shoot at them, wounding their schemes and unveiling their plots.

God is the most powerful player in the universe!  When He shoots, He scores!  No nation can act independent of His grand design.  In our lamentations of fear begging God to listen to us, may we listen to Him and heed His instructions for only He “announces the end from the beginning and reveals beforehand what has not yet occurred, who ways, ‘My plan will be realized, I will accomplish what I desire.’” – Isaiah 46:10.
