Two Principles About God

Two Principles About God

Psalm 62:11 – God has declared one principle; two principles I have heard:  God is strong, 12 – and you, O Lord, demonstrate loyal love. For you repay men for what they do.

Were you expecting the two great laws or the ten commandments?  David here in this Psalm has heard two very important principles about God.

First – God is strong.  The old King James version puts it this way “power belongeth unto God”  Let that sink in for a bit. In verse 9 of this Psalm David says – Men are nothing but a mere breath; human beings are unreliable. When they are weighed in the scales, all of them together are lighter than air.

All the combined strength of humanity is lighter than air compared to God who owns strength and power.  God moves the universe.  What can we move?  Mere puffs of warm breath!

Second – God is love.  The old King James says “unto thee, O Lord belongeth mercy…” in verse 3 David asked the question:  How long will ye imagine mischief against a man?  We are full of mischief and ulterior motives.  God is mercy.  God is love.

Contrast, then, the difference between God and us.  God is strength.  We are lighter than air in our weakness.  God is mercy and love.  We are full of mischief – and we will be repaid for what we do.

We have every reason to be scared of God who has the power to blink us out of existence.  We also have every reason to be grateful to God for His mercy and love that keeps us from destruction.

Wicked people think they have strength and they will devise their schemes to overpower, oppress, and intimidate others – When the time comes, God will blink, and they’ll be gone.

Patiently wait for God alone, my soul! For he is the one who gives me confidence. He alone is my protector and deliverer. He is my refuge; I will not be upended. God delivers me and exalts me; God is my strong protector and my shelter. Trust in him at all times, you people! Pour out your hearts before him! God is our shelter! (Selah) – Psalms 62:5-8.
