Authority of Jesus

Authority of Jesus

Matthew 28:16 – So the eleven disciples went to Galilee to the mountain Jesus had designated. 17 – When they saw him, they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18 – Then Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

19 – Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 – teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

There was a time when Jesus entered the temple courts and was teaching when the chief priests and elders came to Him and asked “by what authority are you doing these things and who gave you this authority?”  They did not receive a direct answer because of their unbelief.  To the disciples, after His resurrection, Jesus declared “all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”

The disciples were to go and continue teaching as Jesus did.  They were to baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  By what authority were they to do these things?  By the authority of Jesus!

Sometimes we are assaulted with doubts and uncertainties because, like the chief priests and elders, we take upon ourselves authority that belongs to Christ alone and we find ourselves powerless.  Are you a baptized disciple of Jesus?  Then go in the authority and power of Jesus to make more disciples knowing that He will always be with you!
