Assassination Plot

Assassination Plot

Matthew 12:11 – He said to them, “Would not any of you, if he had one sheep that fell into a pit on the Sabbath, take hold of it and lift it out? 12 – How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” 13 – Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out and it was restored, as healthy as the other. 14 – But the Pharisees went out and plotted against him, as to how they could assassinate him.

The Pharisees wanted to assassinate Jesus.  Why?  For healing a man on the Sabbath?  For revealing their foolish pride?  For damaging their influence among the people?  Can you imagine when the day comes and they have to give a reason for why they had to spend blessed Sabbath time plotting an assassination – what reason could they give that wouldn’t sound ridiculous?  They were plotting to assassinate God – How dumb!

If it were us – what reasons could we possibly give for time wasted gossiping, judging, or complaining about others?  We are or will be persons of influence to someone.  People will stretch out their lives and place their confidence in us in order to gain relief or reassurance.  Are we going to help lift them out of their pits of despair or keep them in misery?  Let’s represent Jesus by taking the time to be present, by helping, by speaking words of love, by letting them know they are valuable in our eyes and in the eyes of God – so valuable that Jesus paid for them with His life.

He paid for you with His life!

If we are going to spend time plotting – then let’s plot acts of kindness, goodness, and love!
