Raised Way for the Remnant

Raised Way for the Remnant

Isaiah 11:16 – There will be a highway leading out of Assyria for the remnant of his people, just as there was for Israel, when they went up from the land of Egypt.

When I first read this verse I was thinking that this highway was something like an interstate where one could travel quickly out of the cities slated for destruction.  However, that’s not quite the picture that was given to Isaiah.  The term highway actually means exactly as it sounds – a high way; a raised, public access path.

Remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:13 and 14 – “Enter through the narrow gate, because the gate is wide and way is spacious that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. But the gate is narrow and the way is difficult that leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

Let’s include verse 15 – “Watch out for false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are voracious wolves…” – These false prophets will switch the meanings of the labels used in the Scriptures and promote the way to life as a wide easy-access, interstate highway that the masses are taking – for how could so many people be wrong?  How could our top scientists be wrong?  How could our top PhDs and MDs be wrong? How could our world leaders be wrong?  How could our most popular pastors and self-help gurus be wrong?  Remember the flood?  Everyone was wrong except a small remnant of eight people who took refuge in the Ark.

Let’s take the high road; the raised path provided for us by Jesus to get out of modern day Babylon.  Jesus raised the signal flag at the cross.  The everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ will lead us home!
