Exalt the Lord

Exalt the Lord

Isaiah 2:7 – Their land is full of gold and silver; there is no end to their wealth. The land is full of horses; there is no end to their chariots. 8 – Their land is full of worthless idols; they worship the product of their own hands, what their own fingers have fashioned.

verse 9 – Men bow down to them in homage, they lie flat on the ground in worship. Don’t spare them! 10 – Go up into the rocky cliffs, hide in the ground. Get away from the dreadful judgment of the LORD, from his royal splendor! 11 – Proud men will be brought low, arrogant men will be humiliated; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day. 12 – Indeed, the LORD who commands armies has planned a day of judgment, for all the high and mighty, for all who are proud – they will be humiliated;…

The day of judgment will occur bringing an end to a time of unending wealth.  We’ve seen in recent years how the wealthy continue to find ways to accumulate riches without end while the poor can’t seem to get a break.  The wealthy defend their narratives and their patents and demand that the world acknowlege their accomplishments and purchase their wares giving no thought to the harm they are causing to people and to the environment.  It seems as though they are untouchable.  They can’t even be sued for the damage they cause to people.

These verses tell us that the Lord has planned a day of judgment where all the high, mighty, proud and wealthy will be humiliated.  Their humiliation will be so severe they will try to hide and get away from the Lord.  They will not be able to stand in His presence.  They have no defense.  They have no technology or wealth to buy or manufacture a way out of the mess of lies they’ve created.  All they have left is to face the truth about God and discover they cannot bear it.

My guess is that most people reading these words may not be counting themselves among the world’s wealthiest – but the pressure is there in our media to bow to them, believe them, promote them and their false teachings.  The warning from today’s scripture is clear:  they will not be spared.  God promises to us the strength to put up with the shame, humiliation and persecution that Christians will face today – with the assurance that the day of judgment is coming when the tables will be turned.  The patient saints who have kept the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus will be comforted and the proud will be tormented.  And ultimately – God will be exalted!  Let’s practice exalting Him in our lives today!
