When the Curse is Over
Revelation 22:1 – Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life – water as clear as crystal – pouring out from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2 – flowing down the middle of the city’s main street. On each side of the river is the tree of life producing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month of the year. Its leaves are for the healing of the nations. 3 – And there will no longer be any curse, and the throne of God and the Lamb will be in the city. His servants will worship him, 4 – and they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 – Night will be no more, and they will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, because the Lord God will shine on them, and they will reign forever and ever.
These are some amazing verses! We were looking at our electricity bill and had noticed that it had gone up a significant amount. We need to heat our home and continue using lights during this extended, almost never-ending winter. These verses describe God as being the primary source of light, surpassing the light of the sun – imagine extrapolating this thought a little further and seeing God as the ultimate source of all power – enthroned right there in the city!
In our present dilapidated way of life, we are dependent on varied power sources feeding a very fragile power grid which can go down at any time due to sabotage, weather, or being just plain overloaded. The Bible desribes Jesus as being all-powerful! There is no more night with Jesus; no more powerlessness; and finally, no more curse.
Back in Genesis, the consequences of sin was that the ground was cursed, producing thorn and thistle, requiring painful toil throughout a limited lifespan. In the new earth the curse is no more. The earth will become what Jesus has always meant it to be and we will have access to the tree of life and the river of the water of life right in the middle of the city – for an unlimited lifespan.
It just blows my mind to think of life without end, unending light, unending power – no more cold, numb fingers feebly trying to type out these few words. No more fatigue. No more pain. Jesus is preparing all this for you and for me because He loves us.
Today will be painful but we have a tomorrow filled with healing and restoration available to all who believe in Jesus. Paul says in Romans 8:18 – For I consider that our present sufferings cannot even be compared to the glory that will be revealed to us. 19 – for the creation eagerly waits for the revelation of the sons of God.
All creation is waiting for the revelation of God’s children – that’s supposed to be me and you and all who believe! Creation itself is tired of the curse we placed on it with our sins and can’t wait for it to be over. Creation is waiting on us to get on board with Jesus – complete with our foreheads stamped with His signature! When the curse is over, all creation will be brand new; exactly what Jesus designed it to be. What do you say to that? Are you ready?
