Invited to the Wedding

Invited to the Wedding

Revelation 19:6 – Then I heard what sounded like the voice of a vast throng, like the roar of many waters and like loud crashes of thunder. They were shouting: “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the All-Powerful, reigns! 7 – Let us rejoice and exult and give him glory, because the wedding celebration of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.

verse 8 – She was permitted to be dressed in bright, clean, fine linen” (for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints). 9 – Then the angel said to me, “Write the following: Blessed are those who are invited to the banquet at the wedding celebration of the Lamb!” He also said to me, “these are the true words of God.”

This week I received in the mail my oldest daughter’s official wedding invitation – a beautiful card containing all the important information about who, and what, and where, and when and why.  As the Father of the bride I feel extremely blessed that she wants me there with her and to officiate on her special day.  I was proud to receive the message that only a few others would be receiving.

When John received this message and the instruction to write it down from the angel regarding the invitation to the wedding he was so overcome with joy that he threw himself down to worship him.  In response the angel said these words in verse 10: “Do not do this! I am only a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony about Jesus. Worship God, for the testimony about Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

The Bible all of us have access to in some form contains the law and the prophets – it is filled with the testimony about Jesus.  It is our written invitation to His wedding banquet!  Like my daughter’s invitation it contains the who, what, where, when, and why.  The whole world has received this invitation – for God so loved the world.  You and I have received this invitation.  Will we just toss it aside like junk mail or will we be overcome with joy at being among the chosen?  It depends on how well we know Jesus, the groom.  Consider the invitation carefully.  Remember:  “These are the true words of God,” and you’ve been chosen to receive it because He loves you deeply!

Let’s worship God and go!
