Do Not Be Afraid

Do Not Be Afraid

Luk 2:8-10 NET 8 Now there were shepherds nearby living out in the field, keeping guard over their flock at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were absolutely terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid! Listen carefully, for I proclaim to you good news that brings great joy to all the people:

Who was more afraid? Herod and Jerusalem or the shepherds?

The wise men had good news which caused the trouble for Herod.  Herod didn’t fear the wise men. He feared the news.  His fear motivated his extreme act of cruelty in killing the children in Bethlehem and the surrounding region.

The shepherds feared the angels but rejoiced at the news.  The angels calmed their fears and they were overjoyed to find the Savior of humanity.

Right now there is distress among both individuals and nations.  Who can calm our fears today?  There’s only one answer.  Jesus Christ.

This Christmas, May the gospel bring hope and joy to you so that you won’t fear the messages of hope in the Scriptures or the arrival of Jesus when He returns.
