Approved Eavesdropping
Exodus 19:7 – So Moses came and summoned the elders of Israel. He set before them all these words that the LORD had commanded him, 8 – and all the people answered together, “All that the LORD has commanded we will do!” So Moses brought the words of the people back to the LORD. 9 – The LORD said to Moses, “I am going to come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people may hear when I speak with you and so that they will always believe in you.” And Moses told the words of the people to the LORD.
The Lord was going to come close to Moses and speak with him intending for the people to overhear what was being spoken. The people were to become witnesses to the fact that Moses and God actually spoke together. God wanted the people to believe in Moses – that God called him to lead them.
The Bible is filled with many conversations of God with people – conversations that we can listen in on so we can believe in the divine author, the message, and the messenger. Let’s spend more time eavesdropping on these conversations and believe!
