Kindness in Prison

Kindness in Prison

Genesis 39:20 – Joseph’s master took him and threw him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined. So he was there in the prison. 21 – But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him kindness.  He granted him favor in the sight of the prison warden.

Joseph refused to betray his master.  It’s not easy suffering for doing the right thing.  The good news in this part of the story is that even in prison the Lord was with Joseph.  Are you facing tough choices that are challenging your integrity?  Know that God is with you and will help you gain the victory over temptation and sin!

Consider these verses in Psalm 19 – The commands to fear the LORD are right and endure forever. The judgments given by the LORD are trustworthy and absolutely just. They are of greater value than gold, than even a great amount of pure gold; they bring greater delight than honey than even the sweetest honey from a honeycomb. Yes, your servant finds moral guidance there; those who obey them receive a rich reward. Who can know all his errors? Please do not punish me for sins I am unaware of. Moreover, keep me from committing flagrant sins; do not allow such sins to control me. Then I will be blameless, and innocent of blatant rebellion. May my words and my thoughts be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my sheltering rock and my redeemer. – Psalm 19:9-14

The Lord was a sheltering rock and redeemer to Joseph, leading him to a rich reward even though Joseph did not see it immediately.  Joseph’s faithfulness was rewarded.  Your faithfulness will be rewarded too!  Each of us will face temptations.  Let God be your sheltering rock.  You may suffer for doing the right thing but the reward of Jesus is coming.  Wait for it.  Wait for Jesus.  He will be with you and show you His kindness even as you suffer for doing right.

Let’s wait on our Redeemer today!
