Jesus the Nazarene

Jesus the Nazarene

John 19:19 – Pilate also had a notice written and fastened to the cross, which read: “Jesus the Nazarene, the king of the Jews.”

verse 20 – Thus many of the Jewish residents of Jerusalem read this notice, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the notice was written in Aramaic, Latin, and Greek. 21 – Then the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The king of the Jews,’ but rather, ‘This man said, I am king of the Jews.'”

verse 22 – Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”

There’s a certain sense of satisfaction I get from reading these verses. The lying, scheming, chief priests got everything they wanted out of Pilate except this one thing. The sign: Jesus the Nazarene, the king of the Jews. Written in 3 languages! Many Jewish residents read the notice. There it was. Plain for everyone to see. There was no way to spin the caption any differently for those who would read it. They weren’t executing a man who had made a false claim. They were executing their King of whom Pilate had rendered judgment “I find no fault in him.”

The devil is a master at spinning stories in many different ways in order to manipulate people – but he cannot change what is written in the Bible and he cannot change the events that will happen when they are fulfilled. What has been written, has been written. Let’s put the devil on notice, through the power of the Holy Spirit, and with the language of our hearts that Jesus the Nazarene, the King of the Jews is our King too and He will save us!
