Script of Salvation

Script of Salvation

John 12:47 – If anyone hears my words and does not obey them, I do not judge him. For I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 – The one who rejects me and does not accept my words has a judge, the word I have spoken will judge him at the last day. 49 – For I have not spoken from my own authority, but the Father himself who sent me has commanded me what I should say and what I should speak. 50 – And I know that his commandment is eternal life. Thus the things I say, I say just as the Father has told me.”

The commandment of the Father is eternal life. Jesus followed the script of the Father in every detail and did not lay down His life on the cross until everything was fulfilled. John 19:28 records these words – After this Jesus, realizing that by this time everything was completed, said (in order to fulfill the scripture), “I am thirsty!” 29 – A jar full of sour wine was there, so they put a sponge soaked in sour wine on a branch of hyssop and lifted it to his mouth. 30 – When he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, “It is completed!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Jesus was so close to the Father that even on the cross, feeling forsaken by His Father, He continued following the script of salvation and didn’t depart from it but completed it down to the final detail of being given vinegar to drink fulfilling Psalm 69:21 – They put bitter poison into my food, and to quench my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

All of this was done to save us. We are now in possession of the very script Jesus followed. We can also spend time in prayer with the author of the script. Let’s heed the warning of Jesus, believe His words and follow Him. The commandment of men leads to death. The commandment of God is eternal life.
