Blood of Jesus

Blood of Jesus

Luke 13:6 – Then Jesus told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it and found none. 7 – So he said to the worker who tended the vineyard, ‘For three years now, I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and each time I inspect it I find none. Cut it down! Why should it continue to deplete the soil?’

verse 8 – But the worker answered him, ‘Sir, leave it alone this year too, until I dig around it and put fertilizer on it. 9 – Then if it bears fruit next year, very well, but if not, you can cut it down.’”

The fig tree was spared being cut down for one more year with extra attention paid to its soil and fertilizer applied to create the very best conditions for it to bear fruit.

There’s a unique fertilizer called blood meal used from the blood of animals, typically cows from meat packing plants. This fertilizer is used to replenish soil that has been depleted of its nitrogen due to repeated use.

In the parable Jesus told, the tree was depleting the soil for three years with no fruit being produced. The worker intervened to keep the tree for another year to see if it will produce fruit. In that final year the soil would be dug and fertilizer applied to replenish the soil.

The blood of Jesus Christ is the fertilizer for our souls! Hebrews 9:14 says – how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our consciences from dead works to worship the living God.

May this be the year that we consciously apply the blood of Jesus Christ to our lives so that we may produce fruit as evidence that we are forever connected to Him!
