The Seventh Day

The Seventh Day

Genesis 2:1 – And the heaven and the earth and all things in them were complete. 2 – And on the seventh day God came to the end of all his work; and on the seventh day he took his rest from all the work which he had done. 3 – And God gave his blessing to the seventh day and made it holy: because on that day he took his rest from all the work which he had made and done.

Jesus also finished His work of paying the price for our sin when he “had taken the wine he said, All is done. And with his head bent he gave up his spirit. Now it was the day of getting ready for the Passover, and so that the bodies might not be on the cross on the Sabbath (because the day of that Sabbath was a great day), the Jews made a request to Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away So the men of the army came, and the legs of the first were broken and then of the other who was put to death on the cross with Jesus: But when they came to Jesus, they saw that he was dead by this time, and so his legs were not broken. – John 19:30-33

There will come another time recorded in Revelation when “he who is seated on the high seat said, See, I make all things new. And he said, Put it in the book; for these words are certain and true. And he said to me, It is done. I am the first and the Last, the start and the end. I will freely give of the fountain of the water of life to him who is in need. He who overcomes will have these things for his heritage; and I will be his God and he will be my son. Revelation 21:5-7.

The seventh day points to all these finished, completed, beautiful, accomplished, very good works done by Jesus at creation for us, at the cross for us, and when He delivers us and makes all things new. Jesus will finish what He starts. Everything He does is good.

When we worship Jesus on the Sabbath, at his command to ‘remember’ in Exodus 20:8, we are declaring that we believe in Jesus as our Creator; He is where we came from. We are also declaring that we believe in Jesus as our Sacrifice; He died for our sins. And finally we are declaring that we believe in Jesus as our Savior. He is coming again. He is our future!

As dark as this world appears to be getting, let us not despair. Jesus will fulfill His promises. He will finish the work. “For I am certain of this very thing, that he by whom the good work was started in you will make it complete till the day of Jesus Christ.” – Philippians 1:6.

And remember – everything Jesus does is good, very good!

Have a very blessed Sabbath day!
