The Fourth Day

The Fourth Day

Genesis 1:14 – God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them be signs to indicate seasons and days and years, 15 – and let them serve as lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.” It was so.

Verse 16 – God made two great lights – the greater light to rule over the day and the lesser light to rule over the night. He made the stars also. 17 – God placed the lights in the expanse of the sky to shine on the earth, 18 – to preside over the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. God saw that it was good. 19 – There was evening, and there was morning, a fourth day.

I find it interesting that on the first day God created light and then on the fourth day God created a way for us to see it. If we see the sun, moon, and stars, we are seeing the light that God created.

This tells us something about God the Father and God the Son. Jesus told Philip in John 14:9 “The person who has seen me has seen the Father!”

1 Timothy 6:16 says “He alone possesses immortality and lives in unapproachable light, whom no human has ever seen or is able to see. To him be honor and eternal power! Amen.

John 1:18 says something similar “No one has ever seen God. The only one, himself God, who is in closest fellowship with the Father, has made God known.

Let’s consider these verses as well – John 1:1-5 – In the beginning, the Word existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. Through him all things were made, and apart from him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life brought light to humanity. And the light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness has never put it out.

On this day, the anniversary of the fourth day of creation, may our hearts be drawn closer to Jesus, our Creator and Redeemer, who has brought light to our lives!
