Raiding of the Tombs

Raiding of the Tombs

Matthew 28:1 – Now after the Sabbath, at the dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. 2 – Suddenly there was a severe earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descending from heaven came and rolled away the stone and sat on it.

Verse 3 – His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 – The guards were shaken and became like dead men because they were so afraid of him. 5 – But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 – He is not here, for he has been raised, just as he said. Come and see the place where he was lying.

In this account an angel of the Lord was sent to be with Jesus upon his resurrection. Imagine what the scene will be like when the entire angelic army will be sent around the world to attend the resurrection of all the saints when Jesus comes again. It will be a raiding of the tombs unlike any other in the history of humanity.

Matthew 24:30 and 31 says – Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man arriving on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet blast, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 says – For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel, and the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be suddenly caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. 18 – Therefore encourage one another with these words.

This is my encouragement to you. Jesus is coming again. All the tombs and graves of the righteous will be raided for their precious cargo – the people God loves. The entire earth will shake. The earsplitting sounds of Divine trumpet and voice will arrest the attention of all humanity along with the intense brightness of Jesus and the angelic host. Deliverance has come and there will be no turning back. Let’s embrace Jesus today and look forward to that day together!
