Poured Out For Many

Poured Out For Many

Matthew 26:26 – While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and handed it to the disciples, saying, “Take this and eat it. This is my body.” 27 – Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, 28 – because this is my blood of the new covenant that is being poured out for many people for the forgiveness of sins.

Verse 29 – I tell all of you I will never again drink the product of the vine until that day when I drink it with you once again in my Father’s kingdom.” 30 – After singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

The disciples had seen Jesus take bread to bless and break it in pieces to feed multitudes. There was no multitude at this supper only the disciples. Recall that at the feeding of the multitudes Jesus broke the bread and gave to the disciples to give to the people. From this last supper the disciples would take what Jesus taught them, add it to what they witnessed at the cross and resurrection, then bring it to the world.

The distribution of Jesus’ blood of the new covenant and of His body of suffering has multiplied through space and time providing forgiveness of sins to all those who have believed; from Adam, Eve, and Abel to all of us living today and down into the future to all believers who will come after us.

Heaven’s vineyards are ripe and Jesus is more than ready to drink the product of the vine with us in His Father’s kingdom. When we sing our hymns in worship to Jesus today and this weekend, let’s sing with conviction and hope that one day soon Jesus will come again and take us to heaven in fulfillment of Scripture and His unfailing love! Amen!
