Listen to Jesus

Listen to Jesus

Matthew 17:1 – Six days later Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John the brother of James, and led them privately up a high mountain. 2 – And he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.

Verse 3 – Then Moses and Elijah also appeared before them, talking with him. 4 – So Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, I will make three shelters – one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 5 – While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “this is my one dear Son, in whom I take great delight. Listen to him!”

It was Jesus who spoke to Moses from the burning bush. It was Jesus who spoke to Elijah in a still small voice. The three of them were together in some kind of incredible class reunion while the stunned disciples looked on.

Moments before Moses and Elijah appeared something amazing happened to Jesus – He suddenly changed. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. At the second coming of Jesus a sudden change will come upon God’s people.

1 Corinthians 15:52 says – in a moment, in the blinking of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

Moses was raised imperishable and Elijah was transformed as he rode the whirlwind into heaven. Such will be the experience of the dead and the living when Jesus comes again. Resurrection, transformation and then reunion with Jesus Christ!

The disciples could only witness the reunion of Moses, Elijah, and Jesus from a distance – oh to be part of that fellowship! And then they heard the voice of God saying to them “this is my one dear Son, in whom I take great delight. Listen to him!”

God wants us to be part of that fellowship – for that to happen we need to listen to Jesus. That fellowship can start today as we take to heart the words of God that we read in the Bible and connect with Jesus often in prayer. Jesus is coming again. God’s people will be resurrected, changed and we will be together with Him forever.

1 Corinthians 15:57 – But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! 58 – So then, dear brothers and sisters, be firm. Do not be moved! Always be outstanding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Amen!
