Fit and Follow

Matthew 7:13 – “Enter through the narrow gate, because the gate is wide and the way is spacious that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 – But the gate is narrow and the way is difficult that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Here are some other verses to consider – Luke 13:24 – “Exert every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.”

John 10:9 – I am the door. If anyone enters through me, he will be saved, and will come in and go out, and find pasture.

John 14:6 – Jesus replied, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

The way to eternal life is through a narrow gate named Jesus Christ. Many will find Jesus but will not be able to enter. Why? Read Jesus’ words to a young man who came up to Him desiring to enter. Matthew 19:21 – Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give the money to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22 – But when the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he was very rich. 23 – Then, Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven!

The young man came up to the Narrow gate named Jesus Christ and was not able to enter because he had too much stuff – the young man wouldn’t fit through the gate and he wasn’t willing to get rid of his stuff in order to fit and follow Jesus through.

Hebrews 12:1,2 says – Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, we must get rid of every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and run with endurance the race set out for us, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set out for him he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.

We’re all weighed down with stuff. Jesus’ invitation is still open for us to enter into eternal life through Him. We will discover that finding Him and entering in are two different things – for we will have to leave our stuff behind in order to fit and follow Him all the way through. The majority will be enticed by the illusions of false Christs offering ways that are compatible with our stuff – but none of them lead to life.

Let us all choose to endure the difficulty of the path and narrow gate of the real Jesus Christ. Let us, in the strength of Jesus, get rid of every weight and sin so we can fit through and follow Him for He is the only way that leads to life eternal.
