God Already Knows

God Already Knows

Matthew 6:7 – When you pray, do not babble repetitiously like the gentiles, because they think that by their many words they will be heard. 8 – Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

Verse 9 – So pray this way: Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored, 10 – may your kingdom come, may your will be done on earth as it is heaven. 11 – Give us today our daily bread, 12 – and forgive us our debts, as we ourselves have forgiven our debtors. 13 – And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Verse 14 – “For if you forgive others their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 – But if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive you your sins.

The Lord’s Prayer and the 23rd Psalm were the first two passages of Scripture that we memorized as kids. They were recited by our parents as weekly prayers and it wasn’t long before we knew them for ourselves. The 23rd Psalm was prayed at every Friday night family worship and the Lord’s Prayer was prayed at every Saturday night family worship. They are two of the most precious gifts my parents passed on to me and my siblings that have remained in my heart to this day.

We learned these verses in the King James Version in which a few extra words were added to the ending of verse 13 that were omitted from this version and many others. Here they are: “For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”

I’m thankful that God already knows what I need before I even ask. Memorizing and praying these prayers has been a way for me to worship God and to be reassured that He is always there. May you find peace in the comfort of this prayer. Let’s be confident in God today knowing for certain that because He possesses the kingdom, all the power and all the glory – there’s absolutely nothing to fear from this world. Amen!
