Great Things He Has Done

Great Things He Has Done

2 Kings 8:1 – Now Elisha advised the woman whose son he had brought back to life, “You and your family should go and live somewhere else for a while, for the LORD has decreed that a famine will overtake the and for seven years.” 2 – So the woman did as the prophet said. She and her family went and lived in the land of the Philistines for seven years. 3 – After seven years the woman returned from the land of the Philistines and went to ask the king to give her back her house and field.

Verse 4 – Now the king was talking to Gehazi, the prophet’s servant, and said, “Tell me all the great things which Elisha has done.” 5 – While Gehazi was telling the king how Elisha had brought the dead back to life, the woman whose son he had brought back to life came to ask the king for her house and field. Gehazi said, “My master, O king, this is the very woman and this is her son whom Elisha brought back to life!”

verse 6 – The king asked the woman about it, and she gave him the details. The king assigned a eunuch to take care of her request and ordered him, “Give her back everything she owns, as well as the amount of crops her field produced from the day she left the land until now.”

When asked about the great things Elisha has done, Gehazi just happened to start with the story of how Elisha brought the dead to life, just the very son and his mother were present to see the king about reclaiming her house and field. Without that story, I wonder what the likelihood would have been of her recovering everything.

Without Jesus in our life story, I wonder what the likelihood would be of us overcoming the enemy and claiming eternal life. In both cases, Jesus is the person who makes the difference.

Revelation 12:10, 11 says – And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Let Jesus be the person who makes a difference in your life story today. Let the words of this beloved hymn become a part of your unique story: “To God be the glory great things He has done, so loved He the world that He gave us His Son, who yielded His life an atonement for sin, and opened the life gate that all may go in.”
