Hunger

Hunger

Matthew 4:1 – Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 – After he fasted forty days and forty nights he was famished.

It occurred to me after reading these verses that a fast of forty days and forty nights had to have included 5 or 6 Sabbaths in a row. Not that it means anything extra significant but if you ever wondered if Jesus fasted on the Sabbath – you could now say with certainty: Yes. He did.

We can also say with confidence that the devil will come to us with temptations when we are both hungry and full. Praise God we can answer each of His temptations, with an ‘It is Written…” – in the Spirit and wisdom of Jesus Christ.

We may choose to periodically fast from food for the sake of health and for the glory of God, but let us never fast from the words that come from the mouth of God. Let us eat our fill of God’s Word this Sabbath day and be nourished from the courts of heaven.

Happy Sabbath!
