God’s Name is Jealous

Exodus 34:12 – “Be very careful not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you are going, so they won’t be a snare among you. 13 – Rather, you are to tear down their altars, you are to smash their sacred pillars, and you are to cut down their sacred poles –

verse 14 – indeed, you are not to bow down in worship to any other god because the LORD’s name is Jealous – he’s a jealous God –

God is so jealous for our worship – so jealous, that it is not just in His name – it IS His name. Jealous is one of God’s many names. We do not know what jealousy is until we know God!

God is absolutely right to be named Jealous – because all other gods are impostors and liars claiming to deserve worship for things only God has done; things only God can do.

God is so Jealous for our worship that He stood with Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego) in the fiery furnace in defiance of King Nebuchadnezzar and his law compelling everyone to worship his golden image. (Daniel 3:25)

God is so Jealous for our worship that “If anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a large millstone were hung around his neck and he were drowned at the bottom of the sea.” – Matthew 18:6

God is so Jealous for our worship that, at His second coming, He will wake the dead who believed in Him and take them and all the living believers from this earth to always be with Him. – 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17.

Jealous will defy any earthly authority, destroy any oppressor and reach into the grave itself to defend those who worship Him. Jealous went to the cross for you and for me. When we are tempted to sin know that Jealous will fight for us to keep us from sinning, if we will let Him.

Praise God, His name is Jealous. For He is Jealous for you and for me. We do not have to be afraid of anything the world can do to enforce the worship of false gods. Let us be confident that His love for us is a jealous love that no power in heaven or earth could ever defeat!
