The Midwives Feared God

The Midwives Feared God

Exodus 1:15 – Later, the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah. 16 – “When you help the Hebrew women give birth,” he said, “watch them as they deliver. If it’s a son, kill him; but if it’s a daughter, let her live.’

verse 17 – But the midwives feared God and didn’t do what the king of Egypt told them. Instead, they let the boys live.

The midwives feared God and let the boys live.

I just had to let those words sink deep. May the fear of God move me to defy any earthly authority that demands disobedience to the law of God.

The midwives feared God and defied the king of Egypt.

Proverbs 8:13 says – The fear of the LORD is to hate evil. Pride, arrogance, an evil lifestyle, and perverted speech I despise. 14 – Counsel belongs to me, along with sound judgment. I am understanding. Power belongs to me.

Verse 15 – Kings reign by me, and rulers dispense justice through me. 16 – By me leaders rule, as do noble officials and all who govern justly.

All Egypt was to soon learn that all power belongs to God. Shiphrah and Puah knew this by faith.

It may seem like God is not in control today as evil, pride, arrogance, an evil lifestyle, and perverted speech seem to run rampant all over our world.

Let us remember the faithfulness of Shiphrah and Puah who obeyed the King they could not see over the king they could see. May God give us all the courage to do the same.

Exodus 1:20 – God was pleased with the midwives, and the people multiplied and became very strong. 21 – Because the midwives feared God, he provided families for them.

Fearing God over man will come at a price in this life but never forget the words of Jesus who said in Mark 10:29 – “I tell all of you with certainty, there is no one who has left his home, brothers, sisters, mother, father, children, or fields because of me and the gospel 30 – who will not receive a hundred times as much here in this world – homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields, along with persecution – as well as eternal life in the age to come.

Let us all choose to fear God and hate evil today!
