Heard About You

Heard about You

Genesis 41:15 – Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I had a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. But I have heard about you, that you can interpret dreams.” 16 – Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “It is not within my power, but God will speak concerning the welfare of Pharaoh.”

What did Pharaoh hear about Joseph? Read the testimony of the chief cupbearer in Genesis 41:9 – “Today I recall my failures. 10 – Pharaoh was enraged with his servants, and he put me in prison in the house of the captain of the guards – me and the chief baker. 11 – We each had a dream one night; each of us had a dream with its own meaning.

Verse 12 – Now a young man, a Hebrew, a servant of the captain of the guards, was with us there. We told him our dreams, and he interpreted the meaning of each of our respective dreams for us. 13 – It happened just as he had said to us – Pharaoh restored me to my office, but he impaled the baker.”

verse 14 – Then Pharaoh summoned Joseph. So they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; he shaved himself, changed his clothes, and came before Pharaoh.

What happened next to Joseph? He heard Pharaoh’s dream and God gave Joseph the interpretation plus a sensible strategy to take advantage of the seven years of abundance that were coming so they could all survive the seven years of famine that would follow.

Verse 38 – So Pharaoh asked his officials, “Can we find a man like Joseph, one in whom the Spirit of God is present?” 39 – So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Because God has enabled you to know all this, there is no one as wise and discerning as you are!

Verse 40 – You will oversee my household, and all my people will submit to your commands. Only I, the king, will be greater than you.

Joseph’s name means “Jehovah has added” – What did Jesus add to Joseph’s life? Not just freedom, but authority. Joseph was elevated from hated brother, slave, servant, and prisoner to being overseer over Pharaoh’s house and the entire kingdom of Egypt!

Verse 44 – Pharaoh also said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh, but without your permission non one will move his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.”

Dear reader, Joseph trusted God when taken from home. Joseph trusted God in Potiphar’s house. Joseph trusted God when falsely accused and sent to prison. Joseph trusted God in prison and at just the right time Joseph experienced the fulfillment of the seemingly impossible dream that he had relayed to his family years before.

At only 30 years of age Joseph was placed in charge of all the land of Egypt.

My question to you is this: What place does Jesus have in your life? Joseph was elevated to power because of what the Pharaoh heard.

What have you heard about Jesus? What have you read? Let us elevate and exalt Jesus to first place in our lives. Let us patiently endure the trials that we experience each day trusting God to fulfill his promises that He will add to our lives just as He added to Joseph’s life.

For what does the Scripture say? “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:33
