Do Good and Save Lives

Do Good and Save Lives

Luke 6:9 – Then Jesus asked them, “I ask you, is it lawful to do good or to do evil on the Sabbath, to save a life or to destroy it?”

A man with a paralyzed right hand came to the synagogue while Jesus was there. The Scribes and Pharisees were watching closely to see if Jesus would heal on the Sabbath because they wanted to accuse Him of doing something wrong.

In the eyes of the Scribes and Pharisees even performing a miracle of healing was considered to be work and therefore evil – but they could not answer Jesus’ question because how could saving a life be considered evil?

Verse 10 – He looked around at all of them and then told the man, “Hold out your hand.” The man did so, and his hand was restored to health. 11 – The others were furious and began to discuss with each other what they could do to Jesus.

What a tragic Sabbath activity – plotting evil against Jesus for the sake of maintaining control over people and what they did on the Sabbath.

Jesus made it easy. The Sabbath is a gift of time He gave to us from creation. Let’s spend this gift of time doing good and saving lives! Happy Sabbath!
