The Way Where Jesus Went

The Way Where Jesus Went

Jesus encouraged his disciples in John 14:1 – Do not let your hearts be distressed. You believe in God; believe also in me. He told them He was going away to make ready a place for them and promised that He would return to take them to that place so they could be there together with Him.

And then He told them in verse 4 – “And you know the way where I am going.”

Thomas was quick with his reply in verse 5 – “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

I’m so glad Thomas is in the Bible. I get mocked for not knowing my way back home, my sense of direction is so terrible. Thomas’ concern would be mine too.

In Thomas’ mind if Jesus was going away to His Father’s house just as He described. It would be safe to assume that this house is OFF-WORLD. How can we possibly know the way or even where to go or how to get there?

Jesus was speaking in literal terms. So, my mind floods with scenes from ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Star Trek’. Or maybe scenes closer to home of the Space Shuttle or the Space Station or the black and white footage of the famous moon landing. Our technology is either fictional or grossly inadequate to even think of making an attempt to follow after Jesus.

Who knows what might have been in Thomas’ mind as he was trying to grapple with Jesus’ words. Flying horses and chariots?

Jesus did not leave Thomas without an answer.

verse 6 – Jesus replied, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 – If you have known me you will know my Father too. And from now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Thomas’ answer is our answer too. Jesus is our way to the Father. Jesus is the truth about the Father and Jesus is our life with the Father.

In science terms:

Jesus is the way and provides the transportation. Jesus is the truth that answers the question of how with all of its infinite calculations. And Jesus is the life-support of how we survive off-world.

He’s got it all figured out. All we have to do is believe in Him.

1 Thessalonians 4:16 says – For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

1 Corinthians 15:51 says – in a moment, in the blinking of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

Then back to 1 Thessalonians 4:17 – Then we who are alive, who are left, will be suddenly caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. 18 – Therefore encourage one another with these words.

These words are for us. Believe in Jesus! When He returns there will be a trumpet blast, the divine voice calling, a resurrection, new bodies, and gravity-defying flight into space! We will leave this world behind to be with Jesus forever!

Let not our hearts be troubled.

Jesus has taken care of everything. Let’s trust him with our lives and our future today.
