Ruth 4:5 – Boaz continued, “On the very day you buy the field from Naomi, you’re also “buying” Ruth the Moabite woman, the wife of her dead husband, so the family name may be continued as an inheritance.” 6 – At this, the nearer related redeemer replied, “Then I am unable to act as related redeemer, because that would complicate my own inheritance. You act instead as the related redeemer, because I cannot do so.”

verse 7 – During Israel’s earlier history, all things concerning redeeming or changing inheritances were confirmed by a man taking off his sandal and giving it to the other party, thereby creating a public record in Israel. 8 – So when the nearer related redeemer told Boaz, “make the purchase yourself,” he then took off his sandal.

It was not a glass slipper, but a dusty sandal that contained the foot imprint of the related redeemer that was a closer relative to Naomi than Boaz, This sandal which would now be in Boaz’s possession was the public record in the presence of witnesses that Boaz was given the right to redeem the field and Ruth, to marry her and carry on her deceased husband’s family name as an inheritance.

Today, we don’t exchange footwear, we exchange signatures on paper, sometimes in the presence of witnesses. It was a happy day when I redeemed our cars from the bank with our final payment and they presented us with the titles indicating that I was now the official owner.

Heaven has an official record, a book of life, containing the names of all those who were redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Check out these verses – they contain a portion of Jesus’ letter to the church in Sardis – Revelation 3:3 – So remember what you received and heard. Obey it, and repent. If you are not alert, I will come like a thief, and you won’t know the time when I will come to you. 4 – But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me in white clothes because they are worthy.

Verse 5 – The person who conquers in this way will wear white clothes, and I will never erase his name from the Book of Life. I will acknowledge his name in the presence of my Father and his angels. 6 – ‘Let everyone listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.’”

Naomi, did not fail to teach Ruth about God. In the midst of her grief and loss, the love and instruction she showed to Ruth was given back to her and sealed with a public record of her redemption. Let us do the same and keep seeking Jesus in a daily relationship with Him so that we will never consent to having our names erased from the book of Life. Jesus has redeemed us! His blood is His signature! The universe is witness! The contract is sure! Come quickly Lord Jesus! Amen!
